Yackandandah Sustainablity is a resource and forum for individuals and groups to use to help them undertake activities which will enhance their sustainability.
Yackandandah Sustainability was formed in 2008 after a series of well attended community meetings. These forums identified many different ways people felt "sustainability" should be achieved but there was consensus in
- empowering the community by bringing like minded people together to undertake activities
- to provide education and share knowledge to improve skills
- reducing our carbon footprint by reducing the amount of resources we use and reducing greenhouse emissions
These forums identified manhy activities already being undertaken by exisiting community groups and we should not reinvent the wheel.
With these points in mind Yackandandah Sustainability aim of linking individuals, groups and businesses within the community to aid in the promotion, education and implementation of sustainable practices was set.
Subsequent meetings have involved 25 very diverse groups and individuals to build these links and the list is growing. These forums have helped gain contacts to develop and achieve their programmed activities and improve their awareness of what else is happening around the district.
Yack Sustainability resources are available to all in the district to aid in building a sustainable future.
